Proclamation Day
OFF
Today schools all over Ireland commemorated the centenary of the 1916 Rising and celebrated 100 years since the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.
Scoil Mhuire Junior held a very special event outside the school, we raised the National Flag, sang the National Anthem and read out the 1916 Proclamation.
The First Class children also read out information about the 1916 Rising and called out the names of the seven signatories who signed the Proclamation.
The seven signatories were Thomas Clarke, Seán Mac Diarmada, Joseph Plunkett, James Connolly, Eamonn Ceannt, Thomas Mc Donagh and Padraig Pearse.
Tony our caretaker and some children then raised the Irish flag.
Mrs O’Doherty did a fantastic job reading out the 1916 Proclamation.
To finish we all sang our National Anthem, Amhrån na bhFiann.
It was a very touching and memorable moment for our school.
It did not finish there, we then held a very special assembly to celebrate our culture through music, dance, arts and our unique and beautiful language. Both teachers and children performed, it was a very enjoyable and exciting assembly.
Afterwards we released green, white and gold balloons into the sky.
Tomorrow we will have our Lá Glas, all pupils are encouraged to wear green clothes. The celebrations will finish with a céilí in the PE hall.
